Cuba and Russia sign bilateral IT cooperation accord

HAVANA, Cuba (ACN): Cuban Information Technology and Tele-communications Minister Ramiro Valdes Menendez and his Russian counterpart Igor Olegovish Schegoliev signed an agreement to expand bilateral cooperation in some areas relevant to the IT field on Thursday.

The Russian Minister told reporters that the agreement covers different aspects such as telephone systems, the exchange of experts, the training of executives as well as the area of satellite and mass communications.

Both officials expressed satisfaction over the advance of negotiations on the IT field, which started earlier this year.

Schegoliev said that, previous meetings allowed identifying main directions of bilateral cooperation, the interests of both parts. He said the technology brought to Cuba from Russia was welcomed by Cuban experts.

Meanwhile, Commander Valdes Menendez said that Cuba is trying to achieve a greater scientific and technological independence in these fields and added that Cuban personnel will have the possibility of receiving training at Russian universities.
